The Soul-Driven Way to Achieve Your Goals
What you’re about to read is unlike our usual upbeat, cheerleading vibe at Drive. But let’s face facts: despite our best intentions, according to research from Dr. Michelle Rozen, a staggering 94% of us will drop our new 2025 resolutions like hot potatoes within the first two months.
Yep, only a tiny 6% manage to stick with their resolutions. So, how can you avoid becoming another statistic? The secret is in smarter, soul-driven goal setting…mixed with a dash of fun! Because in addition to upbeat and cheerleading we also have to bring the fun at Drive!
We’ve been championing a method adapted from Danielle LaPorte’s “Goals with Soul” for years, and it’s actually what we dive into at the Unlocked Women’s Retreat. This approach has revolutionized how I tackle goal setting for myself.
Instead of focusing solely on the outcome, you align how you want to feel with the goals you set. It might sound a bit out there, but trust me, it’s transformative! And yes, I revisit this process every year because it truly works.
Here’s how you can make it work for you:
Step 1: Define Your Desired Feelings
Start by reflecting on how you want to feel in your life, both personally and professionally. For instance, I strive to feel a sense of awe and wonderment daily, whether it’s from noticing a tiny flower growing in a sidewalk crack or mastering a new strategy to help clients.
Step 2: Establish Your Values
Link those feelings to your personal values. A great way to do this is to take our free Personal Values Assessment! It typically costs $20 but it is FREE if you use our link and password. Click here and then enter the password: Drive (must be a capital “D”). You’ll get a really neat report back telling you about your personal motivations and what underlies your decisions.
Step 3: Narrow Down Your Words
If you thought selecting 10 values in the Personal Values Assessment was hard, it’s about to get even harder! Now select 3-5 values that resonate most.
Step 4: Focus on What Excites You
Review your values and update them as needed to powerful words that resonate with your soul! They should be words that truly make your heart race. They should motivate you deeply.
Step 5: Set Actions
Now you are about to figure out how to actually make these values come to life! For example, one of my values is Vivacious. This value used to be called “Awe and Wonderment,” but at last year’s Women’s Retreat, Jenny, my BFF from 7th grade, said the word vivacious. We laughed about how its origins are in Latin, a language we were forced to study for four years!
In 2025, ‘vivacious’ will include both BIG and subtle moments for me. It will mean experiences like spending a month living in Florence, Italy, like I did in 2024. It will also involve smaller moments, such as walking down the street purposefully and appreciating the simple beauties around me, from flowers sprouting in sidewalk cracks to heart-shaped stains on the concrete.
Step 6: Love Your Life
Adopting this method won’t just help you set goals—it will utterly transform how you achieve them, making your life and leadership more impactful, meaningful, and fun!
Wishing you an incredible 2025!
