A No-brainer…Or Is It?

A No-brainer…Or Is It?

Does your organization support residents’ preferences?

Seems like a no-brainer doesn’t it? But, despite what you think, it’s not always happening.

Don’t assume preferences are being welcomed and honored.  Go ask!

Take Action:

Talk to some nursing assistants, dietary aides and other team members. Find out how they learn about residents’ preferences and how they share this information.

Not what the policy states...but how it actually happens!

Ask what their thoughts are on making the process better. Guaranteed you’ll be surprised by what you learn!

Go Inspire:

Encourage those who will be providing the hands-on care, not the nurse or dietitian, to gather the preferences of residents. Have them collect information regarding normal routines and unique requests.

Think “warm conversation” rather than “sterile interview”. Remember it is the little things, like sleeping with 3 pillows at night or styling your hair a certain way, that matter most!
